So this has a few meanings to me, when I was little my uncle Jim used to have a trolley like this is his house. It had fancy jars on it filled with sweets and my brother and I got to eat them when we came to visit!! Now my uncle Jim was the 2 nicest man in the world (the first of course being my daddy) and Id love to have something like this to remind me of him as he has sadly passed away.
I also wanted to incorporate my love of childrens books into this so I decided to decoupage it with the pages from alice in wonderland, as it is such a mad book slightly like myself. I want the top tray to have teapots on it for filling with cocktails and the bottom layer to have jars of sweets!!
Anyway here we go this is how I did it
What you will need
Drinks trolley, A book (or any paper you want to use), PVA glue, DIY mod podge (which can be found here) a brush and some sand paper
I found that the surface was to shiney and smooth to stick things onto so I sanded all over the top of the tray and wiped off any dust that was left with a slightly damp cloth then left to dry.
I started looking through the book and ripping out the pages that has pictures on them, and also interesting pieces of text or pieces of text that meant something to me
Once you have your pages you can start ripping specific pieces off, but I left some straight edges as they are good for the edge of the tray.
Choose an area where you want to put your first page and paste on some mod podge.
Stick down the page and smooth out any air bubbles using your fingers or you can be fancy and use a smoothing block or a credit card etc.
Paste on some more mod podge.
I started with the pages that I liked the most to ensure they had enough space
I then started to overlap pictures, but was careful not to cover any pieces of text that I wanted to remain visible.
Fill in all of the spaces with random pieces of text from the book or smaller pictures and then cover the whole tray in one layer of mod podge and leave to dry.
This is it dry, I think it looks fab but still feels like paper so I decided to do more layers.
I covered the whole tray in 2 layers of PVA glue and let it set between layers. I did exactly the same to the bottom shelf .
Once I had finished I noticed that the glue wasn't as waterproof as I would like so I am going to buy some gloss or varnish to paint over the top!
Why is a raven like a writing desk?
